Patients could ask the following questions of their specialist to better understand their situation. It is likely that the specialist will discuss many of these issues with you at your consultation. Patients are encouraged to ask as many questions as necessary concerning their condition in order to gain an understanding of the treatment options available.

- How necessary is the procedure?
- How urgently do I require treatment?
- How long will I have to wait for my procedure?
- Where will the procedure be performed?
- How long will the procedure take?
- Who will perform the procedure?
- What type of anaesthetic will I need to have?
- Are there any risks associated with my treatment?
- Is there anything I should or should not do before the procedure?
- How long will I be in hospital for?
- How will I feel after the procedure?
- How long will it take me to recover?
- How long will I be away from work or be unable to perform everyday tasks?
- Are there any alternatives to my treatment?
- What should I do if my condition deteriorates?
- What should I do if my condition improves?
- Should I continue to see my GP?
