Discharge from the rectum (bottom or back passage)

Discharge from the rectum (bottom or back passage) is not normal and can be the result of a sexually transmissible infection.

Symptoms

  • constant feeling of dampness around the opening of the anus
  • stains on underpants
  • mucus or pus around the outside of normal faeces (poo)
  • feeling of wanting to do a poo, resulting in only small amounts or yellow liquid or mucus, rather than normal faeces.

What to do

For advice, see your local doctor, family planning clinic or sexual health clinic.
