OUR MISSION
Creating dependable healthcare and better health for all Queenslanders
OUR VALUES
We recognise that Queenslanders trust us to act in their interests at all times. To fulfil our mission and sustain this trust we share four core values:
OUR STRATEGIC PRIORITIES
Since the release in October 2005 of the Queensland Government’s five-year Action Plan – Building a better health service for Queensland, our hospitals and the health system in general have undergone significant reform. However, the growing and ageing population, economic and workforce challenges, and an increase in preventable diseases caused by unhealthy lifestyles will continue to impact on our ability to deliver and sustain quality and safe health services.
In response to some of these major challenges, the Queensland Government released Toward Q2: Tomorrow’s Queensland and Advancing Health Action (AHA) in September 2008. These documents outline the blueprint for the future of Queensland and set ambitious targets which will require the combined efforts of all Queenslanders to be achieved.
Queensland Health is the lead agency for two of the targets:
In order to meet these targets, substantial changes will be required including a shift in the focus of our priority areas.
For the next three years the key focus of Queensland Health is on achieving the long term Q2 ambitions and targets, AHA targets and relevant state obligations under the newly negotiated National Healthcare Agreement.
To strengthen alignment with priority areas, the Queensland Health Strategic Plan 2007–12 has been reviewed and the following four new strategic priorities adopted:
Queensland Health is committed to providing high quality, safe and sustainable health services to meet the needs of our communities. We cannot meet these challenges alone and will continue to work with partners including other Queensland Government departments, the Australian Government and other agencies, consumers and the private sector to develop collaborative and proactive solutions to meet the health needs of Queenslanders now and into the future.
This plan will assist in further reforming the healthcare system into one that can meet future challenges and I commend it to you.
